This Feb, I’m addicted to Lychees. At present they are my favourite fruit. Originating in China, lychee, sometimes spelled litchi is a tropical fruit known for its sweet and fragrant flavour. Lychee also known as Chinese strawberry due to the way they look is a symbol of love and romance in China.

  • High in anti-oxidants like Vitamin C and bioflavonoids which strengthen blood vessels, helps prevent colds, flus, sore throats, and coughs. I can vouch for this, as recently I felt run down and wanted to train in the gym. I had 3 lychees- they were juicy and bursting with sweetness and goodness and I felt re-energised and ready to go and any potential virus wanting to flare up would be nipped.
  • The juicy translucent/white flesh does contain carbs and fibre but on the other hand is incredibly satisfying. It really should be called white nectar.
  • Contains many minerals including Copper which prevents hair from turning grey and increases blood flow and oxygenation of the organs and cells.
  • It’s a natural diuretic. It alleviates pain associated with kidney stones and reduces the formation of blood clots.
  • In terms of portion sizes- 6 lychees are more than enough and count towards your 1 of your ‘5 a day’ portions. If you crave something sweet and want to feel satisfied. Do not worry about the GI scale and diabetes. It is better to reach for fruit than other sugary processed snacks.
