Calcium needs: Calcium is a mineral found in many foods which the body requires to maintain strong bones. In addition it is important for healthy muscles and nerves as they carry messages between the brain and body parts. Calcium also keeps the blood in our vessels moving efficiently throughout the body and to help release hormones and enzymes. About 99% of calcium is stored in bones and teeth, where it supports their structure and hardness. This is why it is hard to get a test conducted to measure levels as the majority is locked away in your bones.
The calcium calculator below can give you an estimate of your daily calcium intake. You can then contact me to let me know your levels and I can advise you which foods to consume to increase your calcium further. As many of you are avoiding dairy produce so not getting sufficient calcium. Some calcium supplements on the market actually are not absorbed into the bones, it depends on the form it is in. Therefore natural forms are advised from Red algae for example. Furthermore calcium works in conjunction with other vitamins and minerals, so as a nutritionist I would want to see adequate levels of these in your diet.

The UK RNI’s for the various age groups:
Adults over 18 years: 700mg a day
Children aged 4-8 years: 800 mg a day
Youngsters aged 9-18 years: 1300 mg a day
Women over 50 years: about 1200 mg
Be vary of calcium supplements as they don’t get absorbed into the bone. I would prefer you take an adequate dose of vitamin D3 with additional K2 found in Cytoplan’s multivitamin. Both vitamin D3 and K2 enable calcium to be better absorbed into the bone. The only calcium supplements I would give the go ahead to are natural sources like food state calcium from seaweed such as Cytoplan’s wholefood calcium. Cytoplan can be ordered below from Cytoplan or from the Natural Dispensary: https://naturaldispensary.co.uk/Wholefood_Calcium_60
They also do a brilliant liquid vitamin D3: Vitamin_D3_Drops_15ml
